Job Overview:
Veritas Consultancy (UK) Ltd. is seeking a dedicated and experienced Accountant to join our expanding Finance Department in Ilford, East London. This role combines operational accounting, financial planning, reporting, and regulatory compliance to support the day-to-day and strategic financial health of the company and associated entities.
You will manage payroll, invoices, tax compliance, VAT, end of year accounts, budget forecasting, and statutory reporting while working closely with the executive leadership to drive sound financial decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Financial Operations & Bookkeeping
Maintain accurate financial records and ensure data is inputted into the accounting system correctly
Generate and process sales and purchase invoices
Reconcile bank accounts, VAT returns, sales ledger, and purchase ledger
Manage credit control, aged debtors and creditors analysis, and supplier payments
2. Payroll & Tax Compliance
Oversee the monthly payroll process, including pension contributions, and ensure compliance with HMRC PAYE regulations
Manage VAT submissions, tax payments, and corporation tax filings
Liaise with external tax advisors and regulatory bodies (HMRC, Companies House, Charities Commission, OFCOM, ICO, etc.)
3. Financial Planning & Reporting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including cash flow statements, budget forecasts, and variance analyses
Assist in strategic planning and provide insights that support business growth and financial sustainability
Ensure timely completion of year-end accounts and support external audit processes
4. Year-End Responsibilities
Coordinate and manage the year-end closing process, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all financial reports
Prepare annual statutory accounts in compliance with UK GAAP or IFRS
Liaise with external auditors to support audit preparation and fieldwork
Ensure submission of Corporation Tax Return (CT600) and other required regulatory filings
Review and finalise balance sheet reconciliations and year-end journals
Support preparation of Directors' Reports and ensure all statutory filing deadlines are met
5. Process Improvement & Compliance
Implement internal financial controls and streamline accounting processes
Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, Companies Act, GDPR, and other relevant legislation
Maintain both digital and physical filing systems for easy access and secure record-keeping
6. Team Collaboration & Support
Act as the primary contact for internal finance queries and work closely with HR and operations teams
Support the financial needs of associated companies
Liaise with banks, auditors, and regulatory authorities when necessary
Qualifications & Skills:
Essential:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field
ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or studying towards qualification)
Minimum 3 years' experience in an accounting role
Strong understanding of VAT, payroll, corporation tax, and financial controls
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting software (Xero, Sage 50)
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and capable of meeting tight deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desirable:
Experience with Sage Payroll
Previous exposure to charity accounting or regulated sectors (ICO, OFCOM, etc.)
Knowledge of pension schemes and auto-enrolment
Familiarity with budgeting tools and financial modelling
