A Senior Care Assistant is responsible for providing high-quality care and support to service users while also offering leadership and guidance to care staff on shift. Care & Support Duties Deliver person-centred care in line with individual care and support plans Support service users with daily living activities, promoting dignity, independence and choice Monitor service users’ physical and emotional wellbeing and report any changes promptly Support individuals to access the community, appointments, education or employment where appropriate Encourage independence and skill development rather than dependence Medication & Health (where applicable) Administer or prompt medication in line with training, policies and MAR charts Monitor medication stock levels and report errors or concerns immediately Liaise with healthcare professionals such as GPs, nurses and mental health teams Safeguarding & Risk Management Actively promote safeguarding and follow safeguarding procedures at all times Identify, manage and report risks, incidents and concerns promptly Ensure all care is delivered in line with safeguarding, MCA and best-interest principles Leadership & Supervision Act as the senior person on shift, providing guidance and support to care staff Allocate tasks and ensure staff are working safely and effectively Support new staff, students or agency workers through induction and shadowing Lead by example, maintaining professional standards and positive practice Record Keeping & Communication Maintain accurate, timely and confidential records Complete daily notes, incident reports and handovers clearly and professionally Communicate effectively with service users, families, colleagues and managers Compliance & Quality Ensure care delivery meets organisational policies, CQC standards (where applicable) and legal requirements Participate in audits, spot checks and quality improvement activities Promote equality, diversity and inclusion in all aspects of care
