Main duties of the job
· To provide a specialist service for patients undergoing breast cancer interventions and also for those who are referred for specialist care by medical and nursing staff.
· To provide a specialist Nurse led service for patients with a Family History of Breast Cancer and Breast Pain
· To provide a specialist Nurse Led Follow Up Service for Breast Cancer and Family History patients
· To review/diagnose/assess/treat patients with breast cancer who require specialist nurse input as part of the patient follow up process.
* To make a personal contribution to the discussion of cancer patients at the weekly MDT meetings and their treatment plans / referral decisions
* To provide counselling, support, information and education for cancer patients and their carers through all stages of the cancer journey.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a Breast Care Nurse in this dynamic and challenging specialty. You will play a key role in the delivery of the Breast Care Service, in our dynamic Nursing team, supporting Breast Cancer patients throughout their cancer journey. The successful candidate will work towards managing an independent caseload of patients, working collaboratively with a wide range of healthcare professionals.

This post will aim to provide a specialist Nurse led service for patients with a Family History of Breast Cancer and Breast Pain. In addition to providing a specialist Nurse Led Follow up Service for Breast Cancer and Family History patients.
Working towards supervising and leading the team with the patient centered follow-up management will also be an essential aspect to the role.
The post also incorporates development in leadership and management.
Applicants should meet the following criteria:
•Registered Nurse—With a first level relevant degree
•A specialist qualification in breast care practice.
•Experience within the field to demonstrate impact of treatment of breast cancer. Understanding of treatment options and side effects. Experience within a breast specialty would be an advantage.
•Excellent verbal and written communication/IT skills.
•Analytical and judgment skills.
•Demonstrate ability to effectively and sensitively communicate difficult information and situations.
•Counselling skills training and experience.
•Teaching experience or qualification (Desirable)
• Registered Nurse of the appropriate part of the NMC Register
Duties of this role include:

•To demonstrate compassionate practice in holistic assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care within Breast Care Nursing service.
•To inform patients of results of investigations related to breast cancer where appropriate, to discuss these results and the implications, and advise accordingly using high level communication skills.
•To demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in breast care service. To act as a role model demonstrating high standards of holistic care and provide clinical leadership in specialist area.
•To provide practical information and advice on all aspects of wound management relating to breast cancer surgery and reconstruction to patients and staff involved throughout care pathway.
•Also to provide specialised information and advice to other healthcare professionals.
•To demonstrate continual evaluation of practice and contribution to patient care/outcomes within the Breast care service, making agreed changes where appropriate.
•To carry out audit and evaluation in order to monitor the effectiveness of current therapeutic regimes and to improve health outcomes as required
