Job summary

We have an exciting vacancy for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our dynamic community mental health team working across South East Kent Home Treatment Team

This post would be suitable for both a newly qualified occupational therapist or someone with some experience looking to expand their knowledge and experience within a community mental health setting for those experiencing a mental health crisis. You will be well supported in this role by the MDT as well as band 6 Occupational Therapists working in the team. You should have a strong interest in developing skills in working with service users who have complex mental health needs. We are looking for a practitioner with good communication and liaison skills who is forward-thinking and enthusiastic about innovative ways of working.

All community teams across Kent are looking to deliver a new care pathway approach, where service users will be offered a menu of interventions. These interventions would be offered by various professionals, but Occupational Therapists will play a key part in this process.


Main duties of the job

* Demonstrates ability to work as a team member as well as autonomously
* Work with an agreed number of service users to deliver OT interventions as well as being part of a wider MDT approach.
* Balancing all aspects of the job role.
* Being flexible and responsive to competing demands
* Promoting Occupational Therapy in the service and keeping an occupational focus at the centre of practice

Person Specification


Training, Qualifications and Registration

* A recognised Occupational Therapist professional qualification
* Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
* Registered member of the relevant professional body and / or special interest group
* Trained as a Practice Educator


Experience

* Pre-registration experience of mental health settings and or working with people with mental health conditions
* Experience of individual & group work
* Experience of caseload management
* Some clinical experience of mental health problems
* Use of functional assessments and activity analysis to formulate patient interventions


Knowledge and Skills

* Knowledge in the application of relevant OT theoretical models, and approaches relevant to service user group.
* Ability to work cooperatively as part of an inter-professional team
* Basic factual knowledge of the importance of enabling people to do the things they want, need or are expected to do to support them in being well in life.
* Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice
* Knowledge of and ability to apply national policies and procedures including, but not limited to confidentiality, consent, risk management, service user involvement.
