This recruitment opportunity has been enabled by a grant from Essex County Council which has the direct requirement for us to employ someone with a learning disability and/or autism.
We are a community owned, charitable co-operative practicing Social Farming on a certified biodynamic farm on the Blackwater Estuary, near Maldon in Essex. Launched in 2017 and building on thirteen years of development, we offer educational opportunities through meaningful work experiences, especially for those with a learning disability and/or autism (LDA). We undertake conservation work across 210 acres, including rare breed cattle and sheep, laying hens, vegetable growing, wool crafts, and a community kitchen that processes produce and provides daily lunches. Our produce is sold at local markets, through weekly deliveries, and directly from the farm. We also run a volunteering program, give talks to local groups, and collaborate with Essex County Council, local SEND schools and colleges, and The Country Trust. The setting is tranquil, inspired by Rudolf Steiner and anthroposophy.
Our small, person-centred team has a strong track record of delivery. During term time, about fifty people visit the farm weekly, with over 2,500 social farming day places annually.
The role reports to the Operations Manager and requires previous experience managing a commercial kitchen, adhering to food hygiene standards, supervising individuals with a learning disability and/or autism, preparing weekly menus, stock management, and collaborating with the gardening team to utilize farm produce.
