About the Organisation
This is an opportunity to join a specialist engineering group working at the forefront of protective design, structural response, and extreme load simulation. The team works with clients who require high-fidelity modelling of blast, impact and shock events, and is known for producing technically rigorous, real-world solutions. You’ll be part of a small, highly skilled group where your work directly influences project outcomes and software development.
The Role
This is a hands-on modelling and simulation role. You will build clean finite element models from structural drawings, run explicit dynamic analyses, and support the development and testing of internal simulation workflows. You’ll also work directly with engineers and software developers to verify results and improve modelling efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
* Build and run explicit FEA models for dynamic loading scenarios (e.g., blast, impact, shock).
* Interpret general arrangements, reinforcement schedules and connection details to create accurate FE and CFD models.
* Work with solvers such as LS-DYNA, OpenRadioss, Abaqus; HyperMesh/Ansys/etc or similar, and pre/post tools such as HyperMesh or LS-PrePost.
* Produce high-quality meshes suitable for explicit simulations.
* Generate result plots, time histories and concise technical summaries.
* Provide light customer support by reproducing modelling issues and documenting solutions clearly.
* Collaborate with the internal development team to test new features and support verification work.
About You
* Degree in Structural, Civil, Mechanical Engineering, Computational Physics or similar (MEng advantageous).
* Working towards CEng status or already chartered.
* Practical experience building FEA models (academic, internship or early career experience welcomed).
* Familiarity with at least one explicit or implicit FEA solver and associated pre/post tools.
* Confident interpreting technical drawings and reinforcement details.
* Clear communicator, both verbally and in writing.
* Must be a UK national or UK permanent resident (role involves work subject to security requirements).
Desirable Experience
* MSc/PhD involving structural dynamics, impact, materials or numerical simulation.
* Knowledge of relevant protective design codes and performance criteria.
* Experience with blast/impact simulation tools (training will be provided).
* Scripting or CAD skills to support automation and geometry clean-up.
What’s on Offer
* Technically challenging work with real-world impact.
* Close collaboration with experienced engineers and specialists.
* Meaningful influence in a small, expert team.
* Hybrid working and a coastal office location.
* Opportunity to contribute to ongoing software and workflow development.
