Nursery/Preschool Room Leader – Job Description Position Overview
The Room Leader is responsible for the day-to-day running of a designated nursery or preschool room, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and stimulating environment for children. They lead, motivate, and support the team of practitioners to deliver high-quality care and education in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and the nursery's policies and values.
Key Responsibilities Leadership & Management
* Lead, support, and supervise staff within the room, ensuring effective teamwork and communication.
* Delegate tasks appropriately and provide guidance, mentoring, and feedback to staff.
* Act as a role model for best practice in childcare and professional conduct.
* Support the Room/Deputy Manager with staff induction, training, and performance reviews.
Childcare & Curriculum
* Plan, implement, and evaluate age-appropriate activities in line with the EYFS framework.
* Ensure children's individual needs are identified and met through tailored planning and support.
* Promote a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, creativity, and independence.
* Maintain accurate and up-to-date observations, assessments, and learning journeys.
Health & Safety
* Ensure safeguarding policies are followed at all times and act as a key point of contact for child protection concerns.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and stimulating learning environment, carrying out risk assessments as required.
* Adhere to health and safety regulations, including hygiene practices, accident reporting, and first aid procedures.
Parent & Community Partnership
* Build strong, supportive relationships with parents and carers, keeping them informed about their child's progress and development.
* Organize and attend parent meetings, open days, and events as required.
* Promote the nursery's values and ethos within the wider community.
Requirements
* Level 3 (or above) qualification in Early Years Education/Childcare.
* Proven experience working in an early years setting, preferably in a supervisory or senior role.
* Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and child development.
* Excellent communication and organizational skills.
* Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate a team.
* A caring, patient, and enthusiastic approach to working with children.
* Pediatric First Aid, Safeguarding, and Food Hygiene training (desirable but can be supported).
