Our aim is to help the UK switch to clean energy and make sure our electricity network is fit for the future; carrying more clean, secure energy from where it’s generated to where you need it. As a Quantity Surveyor Higher Apprentice, you would play a crucial role in enabling us to do this.

Work
Most of your apprenticeship is spent working. You’ll learn on the job by getting hands-on experience.
What you'll do at work
In this role, you’ll get hands-on experience in lots of different areas, including health and safety, quality control, working with contractors, and helping to manage projects. You’ll be involved in:
* Taking charge of parts of a project, working with subcontractors to monitor their performance and ensuring they are working safely.
* Helping with buying materials and choosing the right subcontractors for ongoing projects.
* Supporting the commercial team by keeping track of changes from clients and subcontractors and making sure everything is recorded.
* Looking at risks and opportunities in projects and helping report on these to keep things running smoothly and on budget.
* Working with a team of people from different departments, learning how business decisions affect how projects are delivered.

* Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects
* Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
* Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
* Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
* Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
* Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Essential qualifications
GCSE in:
5 GCSES (or equiv) incl. Maths, English & Science (grade 4 and above)
A Level in:
incl. Maths, Finance, Engineering or Physics (grade A* - C)
BTEC in:
* Electrical, Mechanical or Civil Engineering (grade Merit or Distinction)
* Quantity Surveying (grade Merit or Distinction)

Other requirements
Within the role, you will support the delivery of one of our major infrastructure projects within Strategic Infrastructure, and therefore, you will be required to live within a 45–60-minute commutable distance of the following postcode: LS15 7JY.
You will be required to travel to our site locations. Annually you’re expected to travel more than 10,000 miles for business.
A driving licence is required for this role, so if you do not already have one, you must have obtained one by 31st May 2026.
