Chronos Energy is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer. This is a full-time position offering a competitive salary and benefits package.
This role focuses on delivering high-quality mechanical design and technical support across decarbonisation and sustainable retrofit projects. You will lead the design and optimisation of HVAC systems, heat pumps, building automation systems, and low‑carbon energy solutions, supporting projects from feasibility through to construction and commissioning.
Roles and Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical building services design for low‑carbon retrofit and new‑build projects
* Design and integrate heat pumps, HVAC, heat recovery, thermal storage, and demand‑led control systems
* Deliver detailed designs across RIBA Stages 2–5, including load calculations, equipment sizing, ductwork and pipework layouts, schematics, and technical reports
* Support heat network and utility connection designs
* Coordinate with electrical and multidisciplinary teams to ensure seamless project delivery
* Lead design reviews, QA checks, and compliance with CIBSE, BS EN standards, and UK Building Regulations
* Contribute to HAZOP, LOPA, risk assessments, and risk register management
* Produce technical reports, drawings, and specifications
* Lead client and contractor meetings and support bid and fee proposal development
* Mentor junior engineers and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Skills and Experience
* Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
* CEng qualified or working towards chartership
* Strong experience in mechanical building services design, design management, and project delivery
* Proven background in sustainable retrofit, low‑carbon technologies, and energy efficiency projects
* Experience working across full RIBA stages within multidisciplinary teams
* Proficient in AutoCAD and familiar with BIM/Revit workflows
* Experience with modelling software such as IES, Energy Pro, PVsol, Termis, NEMO, or Netsim
