Bespoke Underwriting Manager (Charity and Faith Organisations)
This leading insurance provider with a focus on sustainability and community impact are looking for an Underwriting Manager to support/lead the Senior Underwriting team. My client has had substantial growth in the past three years and are committed to serving the non-profit sector.
The company, with over 1000 employees, has recently relocated to a state-of-the-art office in Brighton and are looking for a new senior member to join their team.
As the Underwriting Manager, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing underwriting activities for the Charity and Faith Organisations portfolio. With a competitive salary of £72,000, this role requires two days in the Brighton office, with a focus on managing a team of 6 direct reports.
You will be responsible for both underwriting and managerial duties, including caseload management, team performance, and business development.
Underwriting Leadership:
Manage underwriting activities, ensuring adherence to risk management guidelines and profitability targets.
Handle premiums exceeding £10,000+
Team Management:
Lead a team of underwriters, providing guidance, coaching, and support
Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, performance appraisals, and reviews to drive team success
Business Development:
Drive new business growth,
Cultivate relationships with brokers
Technical Expertise:
Utilise strong technical underwriting skills in General Commercial Lines of Business to assess risks and make informed decisions
Communicate effectively with brokers, providing insights and solutions tailored to client needs
Floor Walking and Mentorship:
Engage in floor walking activities to support the development of junior team members
Share knowledge and expertise to foster a culture of continuous learning and growth
Requirements:
1. Background in General Commercial Underwriting
2. Experience managing premiums exceeding £10,000
3. Strong leadership skills, with prior experience in team management and performance evaluation
4. Ability to build and maintain relationships with brokers, with a focus on business development
5. Technical proficiency in underwriting principles
6. Excellent communication skills, comfortable engaging with both internal teams and external clients
7. Willingness to travel for broker meetings as required
