An opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic orthoptist to join our friendly team of 5 orthoptists based at the Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital and Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. Aberdeen is an affluent, friendly and vibrant city, combining all the amenities of a large city with quick, easy access to its beautiful surrounding countryside and coastline.
Ours is a busy department with a diverse workload including assessment of patients from paediatrics, neuro-ophthalmology, ocular motility, maxilo-facial, urgent referral and stroke. You will work alongside 2 paediatric ophthalmologists and 1 neuro-ophthalmologist on a regular basis, as well as optometrists and other specialists.
The postholder will participate in our extensive Pre-School Orthoptic Vision Screening programme and regular peripheral orthoptic clinics, including a visiting clinic to the Shetland Isles, giving the successful applicant the opportunity to see the wider Grampian area. A driving licence is essential.
We are an accredited centre for undergraduate orthoptic students and also provide teaching sessions for optometrists, junior medical staff, nursing staff and other AHPs.
This role would be perfectly suited to a newly qualified orthoptist and support will be given to the successful applicant through the Flying start programme. A degree or diploma in Orthoptics and HCPC registration are essential for this post.
