An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated, detail‑driven, and people‑focused individual to join our team as a Vetting Officer.
In this vital position, you’ll play a key role in safeguarding the organisation’s integrity and maintaining public confidence in policing, by assessing the suitability of individuals requiring vetting clearance. You’ll oversee cases from start to finish—conducting interviews, gathering and analysing information, evaluating risk, and delivering clear, written, well‑reasoned recommendations.
The role involves sensitive communication, handling confidential information with discretion, and working collaboratively with colleagues across Vetting, HR, Professional Standards, and other departments, and you’ll help ensure we make safe, robust, and informed vetting decisions. Whether you already have vetting experience or are seeking a new challenge that draws on investigative, analytical or customer‑focused skills, this role offers a meaningful and rewarding opportunity to make an impact.
It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:
1. Demonstrate good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to manage sensitive conversations
2. Ability to undertake research using various systems
3. Ability to undertake analysis and evaluation of information
4. Experience of accurate record keeping and ability to maintain data quality
5. Experience of documenting decision making and rationale for outcomes
6. Good organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
7. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of vetting procedures as detailed in the College of Policing Approved Professional Practice
2. Have experience of working with confidential and sensitive information
3. Demonstrate and understanding of the National Decision-Making Model
This post is 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
