Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Temporary Works Engineer to join our team on the prestigious Dunard Centre project in Edinburgh.
This is a part‑time, 12‑month fixed‑term contract, ideal for someone with strong technical expertise who wants to contribute to one of Scotland’s most significant cultural infrastructure developments.
Responsibilities
As a Temporary Works Engineer, you will support the Temporary Works Lead and Technical Director in delivering safe, innovative, and cost‑effective temporary works solutions for the Dunard Centre project.
You’ll work closely with both internal stakeholders and external partners, ensuring the temporary works design process is well‑managed, compliant, and aligned with best practice.
* Provide technical support to project delivery teams, reviewing and verifying design work.
* Help manage temporary works subcontractors and support tender activities related to temporary works.
* Prepare and communicate design risk assessments and ensure compliance with CDM regulations.
* Contribute to value engineering, offering innovative temporary works solutions.
* Support assurance through audits, best‑practice sharing, and technical governance activities.
* Build strong working relationships with consultants, suppliers, and third‑party stakeholders.
* Promote digital design and BIM adoption within the temporary works function.
* Maintain up‑to‑date technical knowledge of temporary works standards, software and methods.
Qualifications
* Holds a recognised engineering qualification (e.g., MICE, MIStructE) and a valid CSCS card.
* Has demonstrable experience in temporary works design and industry best practice.
* Is proficient with structural, civil and geotechnical design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civils 3D, Revit, Tekla, CADS Geotechnical).
* Possesses strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work effectively under time pressure.
* Brings a proactive, customer‑focused mindset with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement.
* Can confidently advise senior stakeholders and uphold high technical standards.
