We have an immediate need for a Housing Support Specialist, working within our Specialist Housing Support service. This position is Full time, 35 hours per week. Please note that candidates not providing a cover letter will not be considered.
Job Title: Housing Support Specialist
Responsible to: Specialist Housing Support Manager
Location: Kings Court, Bristol
Contract: Temporary – Full Time
Role Purpose
The role of the Housing Support Specialist is to support clients engaged with drug and alcohol services to provide specialist housing support. The worker will assess clients and work to prevent homelessness or support clients in accessing safe and secure accommodation. The Housing Support Specialist will co-produce support plans with clients to address their housing needs, using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and person-centered approaches.
Specific Duties
1. Support clients to sustain accommodation and prevent homelessness through tailored 1-1 support sessions, person-centered support plans, and trauma-informed working.
2. Advocate for Ara clients, ensuring high-quality interventions with partners.
3. Build and maintain relationships with relevant partner organizations.
4. Provide a housing drop-in to assist clients with housing-related needs.
5. Collaborate with relevant services to develop a robust referral and assessment process.
6. Engage with landlords and potential excluders to prevent homelessness or arrange move-on options.
7. Work closely with colleagues within the service to ensure offerings are relevant and up-to-date.
8. Promote Ara’s Housing Support Service externally as needed.
9. Develop personal knowledge and practice through training, supervision, and team participation.
10. Maintain accurate records and provide statistical data to inform service delivery and future initiatives.

2. Manage own administrative tasks with support as needed.
3. Maintain professional boundaries and serve as a positive role model.

Skills, Experience, and Knowledge
* Experience working with external stakeholders and supporting vulnerable people.
* Knowledge of housing/homelessness services and drug and alcohol services in Bristol.
* Experience in multi-disciplinary liaison and community services.
* Empathic approach with service users.
* Ability to design and deliver presentations.
* Effective team working skills.
* Strong time management and administrative skills.
* Excellent communication, report writing, and analytical skills.
* Understanding of health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection policies.
