Job Summary
The post holder will be responsible for the day‑to‑day management of the Radiology Department Assistant (RDA) staff, ensuring efficient delivery of services across all imaging modalities. The role covers both cross‑sectional and ultrasound divisions, requiring competence in both areas and proficiency in cannulation. Standard RDA duties, including rotation across services, will also be performed.
Responsibilities
* Manage day‑to‑day running of the RDA team and resolve any issues that arise.
* Allocate workloads based on staffing levels and adjust allocations during sickness or unexpected changes.
* Handle RDA sickness in line with Trust HR policies, including return‑to‑work interviews and liaising with Modality Leads.
* Identify training needs and provide opportunities for staff development.
* Ensure mandatory training is completed and maintain Health & Safety records.
* Allocate RDA staff to all imaging modalities, recording and reporting training as required.
* Chair RDA staff meetings when Modality Leads are absent.
* Train new RDAs, monitor progress, and oversee the induction programme.
* Conduct probationary reviews and annual performance appraisals.
* Maintain a proficient cannulation service for cross‑sectional RDAs.
* Perform weekly stock checks, document levels, and report shortages to senior management.
* Communicate with a diverse patient group before examinations, including non‑English speaking patients and those with medical difficulty.
* Manage multiple simultaneous demands while staying focused on current tasks.
* Carry out other duties as requested by senior management.
* Line‑manage the RDA cohort and present a professional front at all times.
* Coordinate patient arrival and departure, assisting manual handling as per Trust policies.
* Insert and remove patient cannulas following appropriate training.
* Assist radiographers and assistant practitioners in cross‑sectional imaging.
* Liaise with ward staff and porters to facilitate workflow.
* Manage inpatient orders on CRIS and coordinate with relevant teams.
* Be aware of communicable disease risks and follow barrier/nurse protocols.
* Rotate between all PAHT sites.
Qualifications
* NVQ Level 3 in acute care or equivalent experience.
* Basic literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable
* The Care Certificate.
* The Higher Development Award.
Experience
* Previous NHS experience as a healthcare support worker.
* Experience managing difficult and challenging situations.
* Experience in mentoring and training staff.
* Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.
* Experience working in cross‑sectional imaging.
