Estimator - Highways Maintenance
📍 Location: Abingdon, Oxfordshire (OX14)
The Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Estimator to support a major highways maintenance contract in Oxfordshire.
This role sits within a well-established commercial team delivering essential highway maintenance and improvement works for a local authority client. It is a fast-paced position, suited to a commercially astute professional with strong highways and NEC contract experience .
The Role
You will provide estimating and commercial support to the pre-construction and commercial team, with a specific focus on the development of Star Rates not included within the existing Schedule of Rates.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, price and prepare approximately 400 Star Rates for review and submission
* Support the commercial team in the identification and development of Star Rates
* Liaise with internal commercial and operational teams to gather technical and cost information
* Engage with and negotiate rates with subcontractors and suppliers
* Ensure all submissions comply with contractual, procedural and governance requirements
* Maintain compliance with internal commercial standards and processes
Skills & Experience
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
* Strong commercial experience within highways maintenance or civil engineering
* Previous experience as an Estimator, Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor
* Good working knowledge of NEC3 / NEC4 contracts
* Experience using Highways Method of Measurement (HMM) and Schedules of Rates
* Strong negotiation, communication and organisational skills
* Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
