Job Title: ART TECHNICIAN – part time
Hours of Work: 17.5 hours per week, likely to be:
Monday and Tuesday: 8.15am to 4.15pm (with one hour unpaid lunch break);
Wednesday: 8.15am to 11.45am
Evening and weekend working and flexibility in hours will be required on occasion.
Salary: £10,371.73 per annum per job share role which equates to £12.61 per hour and covers 41.4 working weeks, plus 5.6 weeks' paid holiday entitlement per annum.
Holiday: You will be able to take all Sherborne School annual holidays except for the full week before and after the beginning and end of each term when you are required to work. You will be required to work a bank holiday when the School is working. Holiday cannot be taken in Sherborne School term time.
The Art Department:
Within the Art Department there are five full-time members of teaching staff supported by two Art Technicians. The Art Technicians are required to maintain tidy, practical and safe Art studios as well as liaising with teaching staff to ensure that the correct materials are available for lessons and that students are supported in the completion of their practical work.
Art Technician Role:
Job Purpose
* To provide technician support to teaching staff
* Preparation and cleaning/clearing of lesson materials for the Art Department
* To ensure safe practice in line with Health and Safety requirements
Duties and responsibilities specific to the role of Art Technician:
* The preparation of materials and equipment for Art lessons
* Maintaining studios and their equipment, ensuring facilities are in good order
* Support of the teachers in the Art Department
* Aiding the setting up, running and clearing down of department events, workshops, and exhibitions.
* Aiding teachers within classes to use equipment with pupils when necessary aiding the safe deliver of the lesson.
* Disposing of waste materials
Routine maintenance of Art & Design studios, their equipment and services:
* Cleaning sinks and worktops
* Storing materials as required under Health and Safety (COSHH) (CLEAPPS)
* Keeping equipment clean and well maintained
* Cleaning of equipment
* Carrying out safety checks on equipment
Maintaining the stocks of supplies and equipment:
* Taking stock of products e.g. paints, consumables, canvases, sketchbooks etc.
* Advise on stock replacement needs
* Checking deliveries and storing as required
School Displays:
* Assist in the preparation of materials for displays
* Check Art Studio & Department displays are current and well presented
* Liaise with teachers on studio displays
Personnel Specification
* All the necessary certification for use of equipment or willing to train to do so
* The ability to skillfully use a range of tools, equipment and machinery
* The ability to support practical workshop sessions with supervision, practical instruction and demonstrations
* The drive and enthusiasm to engage and inspire pupils
* The dedication to improve the provision of creative outcomes for the department
* The ability to frame and display students work around school
* The ability to stock take, order materials and adhere to a budget
