Are you passionate about people, place, and the power of local government to shape meaningful change? The Royal Borough of Greenwich is proud of its diverse communities, rich history, and bold ambitions for the future. Our Council leadership is committed to delivering inclusive growth, tackling inequality, and ensuring that every resident can share in the opportunities of a greener, fairer borough. As we take forward the priorities set out in Our Greenwich, the Members Support Officer will be central to supporting the Leader, Deputy Leader and Chair of Overview and Scrutiny in delivering for residents. This is a rare opportunity to join the Leader’s Office and help shape the agenda and improve residents lives in Greenwich. The Role We are recruiting for a Members Support Officer to join the Leader’s Office team. You will play a vital role in supporting the Leader, Deputy Leader and Chair of Overview with executive coordination, casework, and developing policy. Working closely with senior officers and councillors, you will ensure that senior councillors are well-supported, connected, and able to drive forward their portfolios effectively. You will: Provide high-quality executive and political support to the Leader, Deputy Leader and Chair of Overview including preparing agendas, briefings, correspondence, and action notes. Help shape and communicate the Leader’s priorities, via resident casework. Support the interface between the Leader’s Office and the Corporate Leadership Team, building strong working relationships to enable smooth decision-making and joint delivery. Ensure that the Leader and Deputy Leader’s time and focus are effectively managed — with attention to both strategic oversight and day-to-day demands. The Person We are looking for someone who is politically astute, highly organised, and confident operating in a fast-paced environment. You will be comfortable working closely with senior politicians and officers, and able to manage complex, sensitive information with professionalism and discretion. You do not need to have worked in local government before — but you will need to demonstrate a clear understanding of how local government operates in a political, financial, and legislative context, and a strong commitment to public service. An interest in politics and current affairs would be an advantage. This is an exceptional opportunity to be part of the Council’s leadership infrastructure, directly supporting the delivery of high-impact work across one of London’s most exciting and ambitious boroughs.
