JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Design Specialist (Technical) Department: Technical Department Reports to: Senior Specialist Work hours: Days Position summary: The post holder is required to work on new Automation builds and existing equipment. Designing equipment to process requirements. Detailing and creation of Production Drawings. Assisting with the Creation of Technical manuals to the standard required by the Machinery Directive to ensure UKCA Compliance. Main job functions: Helping all Departments achieve the KPI targets, by implementing engineering improvements across the company. To ensure all development work and new machine concepts are coordinated, controlled and documented via the team within Tech Dev. Ensure all drawings are to be created in compliance with the relevant standards (BS8888). Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams (e.g., electronics and software). Working with key stakeholders to ensure a full project brief / specification and scope is agreed before design work is started. Ensuring design/machine deadlines are met Note: In addition to these functions, Employees are required to carry out such other duties as may reasonably be required. Job location: Telford, Shropshire Duties/responsibilities Health & Safety To ensure Health, Safety and welfare within the department., Any accidents or near misses are to be reported and countermeasures implemented as required, within the required time frame. Quality Ensure working to the relevant standards and procedures, to ensure all engineering improvements have been formulated with quality of product in mind. Review with the Production teams ongoing existing Quality issues in their areas and propose engineering solutions to reduce the DAS levels. Ensure control of all documentation in line with our ISO standards and internal procedures. Cost Support unit cost targets through continuous improvements and project implementation, Productivity To maintain and continually improve work levels to ensure we are efficient and achieving the preset objectives as a department. To focus on Tech Dev Project List as well as Q2E targets from across the production departments. Ensuring all improvement works are controlled from cradle to grave and all relevant members are kept informed as the project progresses, and all documentation is updated as needed. Environmental Ensure all activities are carried out in line with the company’s policies and procedures, to continually look at reducing waste of all types and ensure waste is correctly segregated. Adhere to Epson's Environment and Quality policies, and ISO 14001 and 9001 management systems. Ensure responsible waste management through waste segregation. Stay informed about environmental impacts in your role, working to prevent, minimize, and report potential pollution incidents, contributing to our commitment to sustainability. Kaizen To investigate, propose and apply continuous improvements and ideas to existing machines and any new concept designs. To promote and support internal companywide Activities (Suggestion Scheme, SGA’s, 5S Activities, Audits etc.) in line with company targets. General responsibilities To lead by example and always demonstrate a professional attitude. Comply with IT security policy, undertake working duties with ISM requirements i.e., use of appropriate controls for confidential information. To maintain 5S levels in line with showroom factory conditions. To undertake other duties as and when required within Epson. Skills required Must have good communication skills both face to face and via various media. Proficient in Microsoft office products. Take ownership of tasks. Self-time management. Logical fault-finding ability. Structured organisation skills with a hands-on approach Proactive approach and demonstrates solutions to problems /issues as they arise. Flexibility and adoptability to change. Multitask many items at once. Qualifications Essential: HND in Mechanical / Design (FMCG) GCSE math’s and English Proficient in the use of Inventor Proficient in the use of Auto-Cad Desirable: FMEA Experience Degree in relevant design field. NEBOSH Experience with Vault. Experience required Essential Previous experience in a similar role designing, assembly and packaging automation lines. Working in a similar environment with similar equipment (FMCG)
