Advanced Biomedical Scientist - Blood Transfusion

Main duties of the job
* Responsible for the quality and training of the team, supervision of daily operations and staff management, and deputising for the Blood Transfusion Manager.
* Supervise all Blood Transfusion sections and manage daily organisation and staffing; ensure analysers are maintained and troubleshoot as required.
* Manage performance of manual, semi-automated, specialist and fully automated laboratory investigations within a defined service area accurately and efficiently.
* Day‑to‑day management of stock control and usage; maintain Blood Transfusion stock levels and records and monitor usage to ensure efficient use where appropriate.
* Deputise for the Transfusion Laboratory Manager in their absence, requiring good knowledge of both routine and specialist Blood Transfusion.
Registration
* HCPC registered
* Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent
* Postgraduate qualifications e.g. IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma or IBMS Diploma in Biomedical Science, Masters or equivalent
* Evidence of CPD
* Other education as specified in the person specification
* Holding or working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as health and safety, training officer, or quality management associated with post
Knowledge & Experience
* Highly specialist knowledge and experience across a range of work procedures and practices underpinned by theory and practice relevant to post.
* Extensive practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
* Experience of managing people.
* Experience of Pathology IT systems.
* Practical experience of Quality Management and Quality Management Systems.
* Experience of performing and evaluating Risk Assessments.
* Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS.
