About The Role
* Member of the Duty Team, working closely with the Head of UK Duty and external HMRC officers providing Assurance and Compliance for all Diageo UK locations.
* Provide expert knowledge and solutions for all UK locations in all areas of Customs & Excise. Protect Diageo’s reputation and drive the strategic goals for our “Destination” initiative.
* Support compliance of beer & spirits production as well as external distribution centres across the UK.
* Manage importation and exportation of finished goods and raw materials.
* Work closely with all finished product warehouses to ensure timely and accurate reporting and payment of duty liabilities.
* Provide guidance for UK Excise legislation and support projects related to HMRC changes for SAP and Cincom.
* Support locations on new and amending warehousing approvals or licences.
* Conduct analysis on import/export data and ensure correct reporting of duty liability to HMRC through effective controls and reports.
* Support training and communications to sites and supply offices relating to new and amended legislation.
Role Responsibilities
* Recognised as an expert for HMRC compliance, providing accurate information and guidance in a timely manner.
* Maintain knowledge of current and future HMRC legislation.
* Manage HMRC deferment accounts and liaise with stakeholders such as ITT, HM Revenue & Customs, and Diageo UK warehouses.
* Ensure accurate and timely reporting and payment to HMRC, including daily monitoring of transactions processed by third‑party logistics warehouses and Runcorn.
* Reconcile and complete the Runcorn monthly Beer Duty Return to HMRC; monthly payable amount c. £8 m.
Experience / Skills Required
* Graduate or HND calibre, ideally in Law or Logistics.
* 3–5 years experience in the spirits industry (essential).
* Experience in importation/exportation or shipping preferred.
* Sound knowledge of HMRC legislation required.
* Experience dealing with HMRC officers an advantage.
* Training and presentation skills.
* Knowledge of HMRC duty reporting requirements and some UK VAT reporting knowledge advantageous.
* Ability to combine commercial experience, business acumen and instinct with analytical rigor and sound problem‑solving skills.
