Job Description Payroll Specialist – Permanent – based in Hitchin, SG5 Job Purpose: We are seeking an experienced and proactive Payroll Specialist to join a growing accountancy practice on a full-time basis. You will play a pivotal role in managing payroll services for a diverse portfolio of clients while leading the transition to new payroll software. This is a key position focused on delivering accurate, compliant, and efficient payroll solutions, alongside enhancing internal processes and client satisfaction. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Manage end-to-end payroll processing for a varied client base. Lead the transition from Sage 50 Payroll to Bright Pay, ensuring a seamless and effective changeover. Ensure timely and accurate payroll processing in line with current legislation. Provide excellent customer service, acting as the main point of contact for payroll-related queries. Drive efficiencies in internal processes and assist clients in improving data exchange methods. Maintain accurate records and review billing to ensure invoices reflect the full scope of services. Person Specification: We’re looking for a detail-focused and adaptable individual who enjoys working in a dynamic, professional environment. You should be confident in your technical payroll knowledge and passionate about continuous improvement and delivering outstanding service. Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset. Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Experience: Demonstrable experience managing payroll within an accountancy practice or a similar setting. Strong knowledge of payroll legislation, regulations, and best practices. Proficiency in Sage 50 Payroll and understanding of pension scheme administration. Familiarity with Xero and Brightpay is an advantage. Experience in leading software transitions or process improvements is highly desirable. Hours of Work: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week. Monday – Thursday (9.00 am – 5.30 pm) & Friday (9.00 am – 4 pm) Work Location: This role is based on-site, requiring in-person attendance.
