Job Title: SLD Support Assistant – Complex Needs Provision

We’re looking for a patient, caring and proactive Support Assistant to join a specialist all-through school supporting children and young people aged 2 to 19 with a range of complex needs—including Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), and sensory impairments.
This is a setting built around individual care, communication, and connection. You’ll be part of a multidisciplinary team working closely with health professionals, therapists, and teaching staff to provide the consistency and support each child needs to thrive.
What the role involves:
* Providing 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SLD
* Assisting with personal care, feeding, and physical needs (manual handling training provided)
* Using communication tools like PECS, Makaton, or visual schedules
* Helping pupils access learning in a calm, structured, and sensory-friendly environment
* Encouraging communication, independence, and emotional regulation
Who we’re looking for:
* Experience supporting learners with SLD, PMLD or complex SEND (in schools, care or community settings)
* A compassionate, reliable approach and a strong sense of teamwork
* Confidence supporting physical or personal care (or willingness to be trained)
* Someone ready to be a consistent, steady presence in pupils' school lives
