Senior Electrical Engineer
Join the Environment Agency’s Standards and Engineering team as a Senior Electrical Engineer. Your role will provide technical engineering leadership for electrical systems across the organisation, ensuring safe, reliable and sustainable assets and supporting the Agency’s commitment to net zero carbon.
Responsibilities
* Influence and shape how the Service delivers into the future as part of the Standards, Asset Management and Engineering Directorate.
* Provide technical engineering leadership and support across the organisation to meet objectives of safe, reliable and sustainable assets.
* Manage, develop and maintain electrical engineering standards, including safety rules for HV and LV power systems and control systems used in pumping stations, water management, flood defence structures and monitoring sites.
* Develop, deliver and maintain competency and skills guidance for all employees who work on electrical systems and equipment.
* Hold a national incident response role, which may be within normal working hours or out of hours.
* Champion diversity and inclusion across the workforce.
Experience and Skills
* Knowledge of the Electricity at Work Regulations and BS 7671 IET wiring regulations.
* Experience with control systems, IEC 61508, IEC 62061 and BS EN 13489, and telemetry/SCADA systems.
* Knowledge of high and low voltage generation and distribution systems.
* Experience developing safe systems of work, risk assessments and method statements.
* Testing and isolation of high and low voltage electrical systems and proving dead.
* Understanding of risk‑based electrical maintenance philosophies, including Failure Mode Effects Analysis and reliability systems.
* Drafting and publishing electrical policy, instructions and guidance.
* Excellent work management, team‑working and communication skills.
Qualifications
Current membership of a recognised engineering institution and registration as a Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or evidence of working toward registration with a realistic prospect within 12 months. UK driving licence.
