The role of the Planning and Controls Lead is to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the programme are defined. The planner provides clarity on key milestones to define what, when, and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available. They lead all aspects of project planning, including managing the development, updating, and monitoring of plans and schedules. They identify tasks, activities, interdependencies, and outputs for the project and work with the project team to track and monitor progress throughout the project lifecycle.
The responsibilities include:
1. Providing visible and effective leadership, leading the planning team, developing a clear vision and standards, and championing best practices in project planning standards, tools, and processes. Building strong networks both internally and externally.
2. Applying advanced knowledge in project planning to analyze and resolve risks and issues and identify opportunities.
3. Analyzing project performance data to identify trends, areas for improvement, and collaborating on solutions using appropriate methods and tools.
4. Creating, maintaining, and owning PP&C processes, procedures, and planning standards.
5. Identifying future capacity and capability needs of the planning function and implementing strategies to meet them.
6. Building and maintaining external networks for access to technical and professional best practices.
7. Providing guidance and support to ensure successful project delivery, advising Project Managers on planning approaches, tools, and processes, and leading the introduction of best practices.
8. Serving as the product owner for Project Web App, maintaining user access for all projects.
9. Owning the proposed new software for compliance under NEC4, known as My Projects.
10. Providing input for CC&P, attending, and presenting at monthly meetings and project boards.
