Building Services Engineer (Mechanical)\n\nDepartment: Campus Infrastructure\n\nSalary: Starting from £38,249, rising to £45,413\n\nContract Type: Full Time, Open Ended\n\nClosing date: Monday 21 July 2025\n\nReference: CC11799RR\n\nSpecial Conditions: Uniform, footwear or personal protective equipment is supplied and is required to be worn. Please note, there will be manual handling activities.\n\nAre you an experienced mechanical engineer looking to make a meaningful impact in a complex and rewarding environment? \n\nWe’re seeking a proactive and technically skilled Building Services Engineer (Mechanical) to join our Campus Infrastructure team.
In this key role, you’ll support the Head of Engineering Services in ensuring the safe, efficient, and compliant operation of mechanical systems across our diverse estate. \n\nIn this role, you will: \n\n- Manage the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems, including boilers, ventilation, LEV Systems, water systems, and CHP plant\n- Diagnose faults and failures in mechanical services and restore systems quickly to maintain business continuity \n- Lead the development and delivery of planned maintenance and compliance strategies \n- Collaborate with internal teams and external contractors to ensure high-quality, cost-effective service delivery \n- Contribute to long-term maintenance planning, risk assessments, and technical documentation \n\nWe’re looking for someone who has: \n\n- An HNC or HND in Mechanical or Plant Maintenance, or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent) \n- Significant experience of building services engineering and maintenance management (or equivalent) \n- Strong technical knowledge of modern mechanical systems and compliance standards \n- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and planning skills \n- Membership of CIBSE or Institute of Mechanical Engineers or equivalent experience \n- Knowledge of BMS and CAFM systems or similar systems \n- IOSH/NEBOSH or Legionella Control, or similar certifications \n\nFurther information:\n\nThis role is offered on a full-time (36.5 hours per week) permanent basis, with the expectation to participate in the 24-hour duty manager on-call rota for which additional payment is provided. \n\nFor an informal discussion about the role, please contact Ben Spicer, Head of Engineering Services, however, please ensure that your application is submitted via the University website.\n\nWhat we can offer you:\n\n- a very generous employer contributory pension scheme\n- generous annual leave allowance with an additional 5 discretionary days so that you can enjoy a positive work-life balance\n- we are a family-friendly University and with an increasingly agile workforce, are open to flexible working arrangements\n- an excellent reward package that recognises the talents of our diverse workforce\n- a wide range of personal and professional development opportunities\n- a number of support options available for new and existing staff to help with the cost of some immigration expenses which you may be eligible for: Relocation allowance, Visa Reimbursement, Interest-Free Loan\n\nFind out more about our benefits on our website.\n\nWe consider ourselves to be an inclusive university, where difference is celebrated, respected and encouraged.
