Infrastructure Engineer | Networking, Linux, Desktop | VFX & Post-Production Studio
Our client, a VFX and Post-production studio in hip-hop-happening Shoreditch (Old Street) is looking for an Infrastructure Engineer with a networking bias to join their team.
Their studio employs approximately 70 people, with 50 focused on VFX and 10 on post-production. Additionally, they have an office located in Berlin, providing you with the possibility of travel there too. They have an awesome culture and are highly respected in the VFX and post-production world. Their work is seen in cinemas, on commercial TV channels and on all major streaming platforms Netflix, Amazon etc. You will even see the occasional celebrity in the studios!
To excel in this position you must ‘get’ the media culture having ideally come from a VFX/Post-production or media company previously. If you haven’t, you must have a passion for the industry and want to work in this cool, creative environment alongside people who are passionate about their work and the industry.
There’s a big focus on working in the office due to the nature of the industry so you will be required to work in the office 3 days per week in this role.
The Role:
Your core duties in the role will be managing our client’s Network infrastructure and Linux server estate. As this is a small organisation, your responsibilities will be varied however and it will be expected for you to ‘muck in’ and help out with end-user support, desktop issues and working on industry specific VFX and post-production workstations / equipment / mixing desks where required.
It’s all about having the right attitude to help out in areas that might fall outside of your core Network and Linux duties here. Having excellent customer-facing skills to build relationships with the employees is key.
Here’s the tech stack you will be working on:
Networking:
The network infrastructure you will be looking after spans 3 studios in London, in multiple buildings. The network is also connected to a major office complex in Berlin with all sites having additional storage. All offices have to communicate with each other.
* Device Configuration (Routers, Switches)
* Security (Firewalls-pfSense/OPNsense, VPNs, Encryption)
* VLANs/Subnetting
* Experience with TPN or IT security, in general, will be very helpful
Linux Infrastructure:
* Linux server administration – managing the onsite Linux servers and in the Data Centre
* Linux Desktop support
IT Support:
There is a dedicated Desktop Support engineer but you will be expected to muck in with some of the desktop support duties where required. You will be supporting staff, tools and technology that are working in post-production studios, specialising in DI, Colour Grading, Sound Design and Mixing.
* Mac hardware and workstations – setting up new joiners & support
* Supporting software packages including Maya, Nuke, Houdini, Baselight, Resolve and Avid Pro Tools.
* Mixing desk support
* Grading suites
* Meeting room management
If you are interested in this role, please apply as soon as possible as we will be moving quickly. This is an urgent position.
