Were looking for an organised and enthusiastic Practice Manager / Business Manager to join our friendly, well-established practice on a 12-month maternity cover contract. This is apart-time role (24-32 hours per week) we areflexible on the working days and hours, this will be discussed during the interview process.
This is a fantastic opportunity for either an experienced manager seeking a rewarding and varied role, or an Assistant Manager / Team Leader ready to take the next step into practice management. Youll be supported every step of the way, with a comprehensive handover, training, and ongoing guidance to ensure you feel confident and equipped to succeed.
Youll play a key role in keeping our practice running smoothly day-to-day supporting both our clinical and administrative teams, overseeing operations, HR, finance, compliance, and patient engagement, and helping to shape the continued success of our services.

Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee daily operations and ensure the practice runs efficiently and effectively.
Lead, support, and develop staff across both clinical and administrative teams.
Manage HR processes, recruitment, appraisals, and staff development.
Oversee financial management including budgets, payroll, and reporting.
Maintain compliance with policies, health & safety, and information governance.
Coordinate practice meetings, rotas, and internal communications.
Support the delivery of quality targets (QOF) and service improvements.
Liaise with the PCN, ICB, and other external partners.
Manage patient feedback, complaints, and communication channels.
Contribute to practice planning, development, and marketing activities.

PrimaryResponsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the practice manager. There may beon occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependentupon factors such as workload and staffing levels.
Thepractice manager is responsible for:
a.Overseeing the day-to-day operations of the practice,ensuring staff achieve their primary responsibilities
b.Functional management of all clinical and administrativestaff
c.Direct line management of the following staff: Operationsteam leader, Reception team leader and all clinical staff.
d.Managing the recruitment process for the practice
e.Establishing, reviewing and regularly updating JobDescriptions, objectives and Person Specifications
f.Managing all contracts for services
g.Leading change and continuous improvement initiatives
h.Coordinating the reviewing and updating of all practicepolicies and procedures
i.Coordinating and lead the compilation of practice reportsand the practice development plans
j.Developing, implementing and embedding an efficient businessresilience plan (BRP)
k.Managing the financial elements of the practice, includingbudgets, petty cash, payroll and accounting software.
l.Ensuring the team reach QOF targets (supported by the QOFleads)
m.Coordinating the practice diary, ensuring meetings arescheduled appropriately
n.Liaising the PCN, ICB and attending external meetings asrequired
o.Marketing the practice appropriately
p.Managing the Patient Participation Group
q.Managing all complaints effectively
r.The management of the premises, including health andsafety aspects such as risk assessments and mandatory training. Act as thebuilding manager, dealing with defects, maintenance and all other associatedtasks
s.Managing the practice IT system, delegating staff to actas administrators.
t.Ensuring compliance with IT security and IG
u.Coordinating of all projects within the practice
v.Ensuring all staff have the appropriate level of trainingto enable them to carry out their individual roles and responsibilitieseffectively
w.Maintaining the practice and NHS choices websites
x.Coordinate all HR functions, eg. staff absences, appraisals,performance and disciplinary processes.
y.Supporting the overall practice clinical governanceframework, submitting reports for OQF, enhanced services and other reportingrequirements using CQRS / Open Exeter etc.
SecondaryResponsibilities
Inaddition to the primary responsibilities, the practice manager may berequested to:
a.Deputise for the partners at internal and externalmeetings
b.Act as the primary point of contact for NHS(E), CCG,community services, suppliers and other external stakeholders
c.Partake in audit as requested by the audit lead
