Pharmacy Production Officer - Technical Services

At present, University Hospitals of North Midlands is unable to offer visa sponsorship for Band 2 to Band 4 roles, as these positions do not meet the minimum salary and skill thresholds required under UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations.

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated individual to join our well established team in Pharmacy Technical Services.

The MHRA licensed 'Specials' pharmacy manufacturing unit is based at the Royal Stoke University Hospital and is a modern purpose built unit within the hospital. The service encompasses aseptic, chemotherapy and pre-pack (over labelling and repackaging products) supplying both the Trust and external organisations. As a department we constantly strive to re-engineer our services to improve our delivery of patient focused pharmaceutical care and customer satisfaction.


Main duties of the job

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and self‑motivated Production Officer to work with our team in Pharmacy Technical Services.

The successful candidate will work within our Aseptic and Chemotherapy unit and will be required to set up and prepare medicines made within Pharmacy Technical Services. The post holder will be expected to understand and follow standard operating procedures.

The role includes undertaking relevant training, both external and internal in aspects of Pharmacy Services and associated technical activities where required.

In addition, the post holder will be required to assist with the operation and maintenance of quality systems ensuring compliance with the terms of the MHRA Manufacturing "Specials" Licence regarding all compounding and manufacturing processes.

Person Specification


Essential Qualifications

* NVQ3 in Pharmaceutical Sciences or Level 3 Science Manufacturing Technician (SMT) in Pharmaceutical Science or an undergraduate degree in chemistry or biological sciences minimum 2:1 Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the GPhC, Science Council (SMT), Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology
* Registered, or eligible to be registered, with the GPhC, Science Council (SMT), Royal Society of Chemistry or Royal Society of Biology
* Commitment and evidence of continuous professional development
* Training in Good Clinical Trials Practice and ICH


Knowledge, Skills, Training and Experience

* For Band 5: Extensive recent experience of working in hospital or industry pharmaceutical aseptic services with associated training.
* A Band 4 position may be offered to applicants with little or no experience and robust objectives would be set to be achieved to progress to Band 5 level (target within 2 years)
* Computer literate with good general keyboard skills, for using the pharmacy computer systems, including ordering, receiving and stock and rectifying stock discrepancies.
* Literate and numerate.
* Ability to work well with all colleagues as part of a team
* Demonstrable self‑motivation and proactive approach.
* Previous manufacturing experience at an NHS aseptic facility or pharmaceutical industry

* Ability to work unsupervised, alone and act on own initiative
* Diplomatic
* Confident in approach
* Declared fit by Occupational Health to undertake employment duties taking into account, where necessary and required, all or any reasonable adjustments.
* Honest and trustworthy and able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
