Randstad Student Support is recruiting a Specialist Mentor (ASC) to work with autistic students at Bangor University.
The role began at the start of the new academic year and is a hybrid position. Successful candidates must be able to travel to the local university or college and offer both in‑person and online sessions flexibly to meet student preferences.
As a Specialist Mentor, you will provide learning support and academic guidance. This includes creating an individual learning plan tailored to the students’ needs and encouraging them to become independent learners.
Key responsibilities include:
* Developing independence
* Building on strengths and learning strategies
* Creating strategies around organisation and time management
* Developing action plans to stay on track with studies
* Building on research skills by widening knowledge using a variety of sources
* Distinguishing appropriate sources and correctly using references
* Enhancing comprehension skills in reading and writing
Professional conduct is essential. You must maintain confidentiality, update Randstad with relevant information, and act professionally at all times.
Requirements:
* Undergraduate degree (level 6) or equivalent
* Teaching qualification
* Extensive training in adult autism (e.g. six National Autistic Society modules or the Optimum Training Course on Autism and ADHD in Higher Education)
* Experience supporting students with special needs is desirable
Desirable skills:
* Experience working with autistic clients
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Ability to identify learning strengths and support students confidentially
* Punctuality and reliability
* Good organisational skills
* Capacity to manage a caseload of students
