What you’ll do in this Sales Engineer role
As a Sales Engineer, you’ll be responsible for supporting customer orders from the initial enquiry stage right through to delivery. The position blends technical knowledge with engineering coordination. Therefore, requiring strong communication with suppliers, sales, design, manufacturing, and finance teams to ensure solutions meet expectations.
Key responsibilities include:
* Helping prepare with sales detailed documentation for orders before submission.
* Managing purchase orders and invoices, ensuring accuracy, and using Sage for order processing.
* Working with Sales, Design, and Production teams to deliver on time and to budget.
* Producing quotations and tender documents alongside the sales function.
* Liaising with suppliers to secure the correct components and products.
* Responding to technical questions and advising on the company’s range of products and services.
* Keeping ERP systems up to date with project information from tender through to delivery.
* Managing the Bill of Materials (BOM) for projects.
* Coordinating deliveries and overseeing post-sales activities, including import/export considerations.
* Potential future involvement in CAD system management and aspects of product design.
What you’ll bring to this Sales Engineer role
You’ll have a solid technical or engineering background, excellent organisational skills, and the confidence to communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and colleagues.
We’re looking for:
* A degree, HND/HNC in Engineering (Mechanical, Process, or similar) is beneficial but not essential if you have strong practical engineering knowledge.
* Experience in engineering or technical roles involving product, part, or system delivery into process or industrial environments.
* Familiarity with engineering documentation, such as Bills of Materials, and experience with quotations, tenders, and shipping processes.
* A proactive mindset with strong problem-solving skills.
* Previous customer or supplier-facing experience in a technical environment.
* Ability to read engineering drawings and ideally experience with a CAD system such as SolidWorks.
