Are you an experienced ecologist looking to take a leadership role within a growing regional team? This opportunity offers the chance to shape a new ecology function in the Northeast, contributing to nationally significant projects in energy, transport, and infrastructure.
You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, work across diverse landscapes, and help drive environmental innovation-all while developing a team, mentoring others, and influencing sustainable outcomes
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and manage the ecological aspects of development and infrastructure projects
* Design and oversee habitat and species surveys, especially for bats and amphibians
* Deliver high-quality technical reports including EcIA and HRA submissions
* Provide clients with clear, commercially aware ecological advice
* Mentor junior colleagues and support their professional growth
* Promote integrated environmental approaches and adopt digital tools where appropriate
* Drive business development activities and support work-winning initiatives
* Build and manage a high-performing local ecology team while collaborating nationally
What You'll Bring
* Degree in Ecology or related subject (postgraduate qualification advantageous)
* Chartered or working toward chartered status with a relevant professional body
* Strong consultancy experience and in-depth knowledge of UK wildlife legislation
* Proven ability to deliver complex projects on time and within budget
* Skilled in writing and reviewing high-quality ecological assessments
* Strong communication, leadership, and client-facing abilities
* Passion for mentoring, developing others, and shaping team culture
* Willingness to travel within the UK as required
