Anderson Knight is delighted to be partnering with a well-established and highly respected heavy engineering plant and manufacturing business based in Ayrshire to recruit a Plant Engineering & Maintenance Manager on a permanent, full-time basis. Reporting directly to the Plant Manager, this is a key leadership role within the site. The successful candidate will bring significant experience from a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment, with a strong track record of delivering operational improvements through good manufacturing practices, lean methodologies, and robust maintenance strategies. The Plant Engineering & Maintenance Manager will take full responsibility for the mechanical and electrical maintenance function across the site, including automation systems, site engineering projects, utilities, and the ongoing development of maintenance systems and processes. Working closely with the operations team, the role will play a critical part in ensuring production capacity, plant reliability, and operational efficiency are maintained to support the organisation’s strategic and commercial objectives. Key Duties & Responsibilities Lead and manage the site Maintenance team, including fitters and electricians, driving a high-performance culture focused on reliability, safety, and operational efficiency. Provide strong leadership and team management, ensuring both people and plant performance are optimised to maximise productivity and minimise downtime. Develop and implement effective asset management and maintenance strategies, including preventive maintenance, predictive/condition-based maintenance, and long-term equipment reliability planning. Oversee the planning, development, and utilisation of the PEMAC / CMMS maintenance system, ensuring it is fully optimised for scheduling, work planning, inventory control, purchasing, and reporting. Ensure the maintenance function consistently operates in line with site Health, Safety and Environmental standards, maintaining a strong culture of compliance and continuous improvement. Monitor and deliver key operational KPIs including downtime, uptime, preventative maintenance schedules, workflow efficiency, and asset reliability. Drive improvements in plant services, energy usage, and utilities management to maximise operational efficiency and sustainability. Introduce and implement best practice engineering and maintenance standards, incorporating new technologies and innovative solutions where appropriate. Lead the development and capability building of the maintenance team, including performance reviews, training programmes, coaching, mentoring, and succession planning. Take ownership of maintenance and engineering cost management, ensuring budgets are effectively controlled while delivering operational targets across energy, projects, and maintenance activities. Drive the implementation of Lean Maintenance Systems, utilising continuous improvement tools and techniques to enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve overall plant performance. Manage relationships with external contractors, suppliers, and installation specialists, ensuring all work carried out on-site meets the required quality, safety, and operational standards. Support the delivery of site engineering projects, including equipment upgrades, process improvements, and capital investment initiatives.
