Take your first step into a career in healthcare with an exciting opportunity at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, working in partnership with a college of further education. The apprenticeship offers a supportive pathway into nursing, helping you gain valuable experience to launch your career.

* Be at least 17 years and 9 months of age or over at the expected commencement date
* Have good numeracy and literacy skills
* Have excellent communication skills
* Be able to demonstrate a caring and compassionate disposition and the commitment to work in a challenging but rewarding health care environment

As an apprentice, you can expect from us:

Full training by:

* Working alongside experienced staff to support you and help gain the practical skills you need
* Learning job-specific skills
* Achieving the "All Wales NHS HCA Induction within 3 months of commencement
* Achieving a Level 2 vocational qualification as a Health Care Assistant within 2 years of commencement
* All of your training will be paid for in full
* A great experience of working as part of a team, making a real difference

Eligibility criteria for Government Funded Apprenticeships Schemes (Applicable to this post)

* Individuals who already hold a degree are not eligible to undertake a Level 2 Apprenticeship
* Applicants must not already hold a Level 2 qualification in the Healthcare


Main duties of the job

Healthcare Assistant Apprentices will receive appropriate training and guidance to undertake the full range of duties.

Understand the role and willingness to learn and develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills.

The role involves assisting trained staff in delivering care to patients at their most vulnerable times, ensuring dignity and respect is maintained throughout. Assisting patients to meet their personal care needs, assisting with meals and drinks throughout the day. Health Care Support Workers are also required to carry out general cleaning in the clinical environment by preparing bed spaces and cleaning equipment. The post holder needs to have good communication skills and be an effective team player. Staff will be supported to complete mandatory training.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications

* Maths and English GSCE grade C or above or equivalent
* Willing to undertake and achieve the L2 Clinical Healthcare Apprenticeship Framework


Skills

* Good communication skills - verbal and written, with the ability to convey information clearly and sensitively. Ability to keep calm in stressful situations. o Ability to demonstrate a caring and compassionate approach. Organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload efficiently. Ability to use technology to undertake the role for example Microsoft office, email, TEAMS etc. Physically able to carry out the duties of the role, including lifting, assisting with mobility, and performing other manual tasks.
