Responsibilities
* Seek opportunities to engage early and influence the early stages of development proposals.
* Provide expert advice and input during pre‑application and statutory planning stages.
* Deliver technical leadership that inspires and motivates the team and colleagues.
* Work collaboratively and develop excellent relationships with customers and stakeholders.
* Focus on achieving integrated solutions that progress continuous improvement.
* Maintain awareness of political and social issues that may impact engagement, advising the team on risks and opportunities.
* Contribute to national networks, bringing learning and updates to strengthen the team and work.
Qualifications
* Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds and cultures and actively encourage consideration of diversity issues.
* Knowledge of the UK planning system and relevant legislation, including Town & Country Planning and the Development Consent Order regime.
* Ability to deal with and advise on development issues and complex environmental problems.
* Excellent interpersonal skills.
* Ability to communicate strategic and technical issues to a range of audiences.
* Ability to achieve results and proactively identify and solve problems.
* Understanding of the political framework the Environment Agency works within (helpful but not essential).
* Project management skills (helpful but not essential).
* Membership or progression toward membership of a relevant professional body (helpful but not essential).
Additional Information
* Location: Alchemy Office, Welwyn Garden City. Hybrid working model with some travel required.
* Contract length: up to 24 months.
