Mechanical Fitter
Location: Barton under NeedwoodPay Rate: £17.00 per hour (PAYE), increasing to £18.79 per hour (PAYE) after 12 weeks
Job Overview
We are currently recruiting a Mechanical Fitter to support the testing and validation of rail-based power products, including diesel engines, transmissions, powerpacks, and cooler groups. This is a hands-on role suited to someone with a strong mechanical background and an interest in rail engineering.
You will work within a production testing environment, using computer-controlled tests to ensure products meet all required specifications and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Installation, setup, and testing of production power products within test cells, following detailed work instructions
* Ensure all products fully meet defined testing requirements
* Mechanical fitter experience in an engineering descipline
* Accurately record test data to ensure full traceability
* Assist with developing testing requirements for future products
* Diagnose and report mechanical and electrical faults
* Collect failure data and provide structured feedback to engineering
* Full training and guidance provided before being passed off to work alone
Skills & Experience
* Previous experience in testing, production, or a similar engineering discipline
* Good working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems
* Intermediate to advanced computer skills (test cells are computer controlled)
* Ability to diagnose faults in engines and control systems
* Engineering qualification or equivalent experience is desirable, but not essential
* Product-specific training will be provided through mentoring
