Location: Cumbria House, Carlisle
Salary: £38,220 - £39,152 per annum
Hours: 37 hours per week
Contract: Temporary until October 2026
Overview
Cumberland Council is looking for a dedicated Access and Inclusion Officer to join our Inclusion Service. In this vital role, you’ll help ensure that vulnerable children can access education and social opportunities, supporting their development and wellbeing. You’ll work closely with schools, families and partner agencies to tackle issues such as poor attendance, exclusions and children missing education.
Responsibilities
* Support children to gain improved outcomes through promotion of access and inclusion.
* Identify and address barriers to learning and attendance for vulnerable children.
* Build and maintain relationships with schools, families, community organisations and relevant agencies.
* Provide expert advice and guidance to local authorities and external stakeholders on best practice and policy.
* Analyse data and produce reports on access and inclusion outcomes for the council and partners.
Qualifications and Experience
* Relevant degree or professional qualification.
* Strong knowledge of education legislation and best practice in supporting children with additional needs.
* Experience working directly with vulnerable children and families.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trusting relationships.
* A commitment to inclusion and the council’s core values of ambition, collaboration, compassion, empowerment and innovation.
DBS Checks
This role requires an Enhanced DBS Check with a Children’s Barred List check. Applicants who are barred from working with children in a regulated activity will not be considered.
