Job Description
We're looking for a skilled and experienced CNC Turner to join our high-performance precision manufacturing team in Reading. This role is ideal for a machinist who specialises in CNC lathes and turning centres, with a passion for quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement. You'll be responsible for producing complex turned components to exacting standards, often working to tight tolerances and lead times.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nSet, operate, and adjust CNC lathes to machine precision components\n\nRead and interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications\n\nLoad and inspect tooling, set tool offsets, and edit CNC programs at the machine\n\nCarry out first-off, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, gauges, CMMs)\n\nEnsure all work meets strict quality and dimensional tolerances\n\nDeburr and finish components as required\n\nWork to production schedules and optimise cycle times without compromising quality\n\nSupport sub-assembly processes when necessary\n\nMaintain clean, organised workstations and follow health & safety practices\n\nParticipate in continuous improvement initiatives including lean, 5S, and kaizen\n\nAssist in mentoring junior machinists and apprentices\n\nWhat We're Looking For:\n\nRecognised engineering apprenticeship or minimum 10 years' experience in a CNC turning role\n\nExpert knowledge of CNC lathes (Fanuc, Mazatrol, or similar control systems)\n\nSolid understanding of metal cutting principles and machining best practices\n\nStrong ability to work from complex engineering drawings\n\nSelf-sufficient, accurate, and methodical work ethic\n\nAble to identify drawing or material issues and escalate appropriately\n\nCommitment to lean manufacturing and a right-first-time approach\n\nReliable, punctual, and safety-conscious team player
