Overview of the position:
As a supplier to the HM Prison Service for the provision of maintenance trades & support operatives, Hays is seeking to recruit multiple qualified trades, including a Maintenance Handyman/person for the Prison in Wolverhampton, HMP Featherstone.
Compensation:
The rate is £ per hour inclusive of holiday pay. PAYE.
Purpose of the Maintenance role:
As part of the Works Department, you will be responsible for reactive repairs, as well as planned and preventative maintenance. The prison currently has several refurbishment and general day-to-day maintenance projects underway. The role involves tasks such as assisting other trades, signage installation, basic painting and carpentry duties, using drills and hand tools, and conducting fire alarm/emergency lighting checks.
Work environment and opportunities:
The Maintenance role offers a unique working environment with a strong team dynamic. It is always in demand, providing potential for long-term contracts and, once trained, opportunities to work in other prisons locally and nationally. Candidates must be local to the prison or have their own transport.
Experience:
No prior experience in a prison/public sector is required. The role requires candidates to be security-conscious, reliable, consistent, level-headed, and possess excellent interpersonal skills. Full training on working within a prison environment is provided.
Security Clearance:
All applicants must undergo the HM Prison Service Security Clearance process, which can take up to 4 weeks and may include a CRB check. Candidates must hold a valid passport or birth certificate, a photo driving licence at their current address, and be able to provide two satisfactory references, including at least one from a previous employer.
