Due to our ongoing growth, we are currently recruiting for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our Orbit Housing contract, based in the office in Stratford-upon-Avon. This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled individual to play a key role in our commercial management function, providing proactive and timely support.
You will work as part of a team of 10, reporting to the Commercial Manager and working in partnership with Operations Management. The Assistant Quantity Surveyor ensures accurate reporting is fundamental to the role and will have a key focus on building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the company obtains value for money and receives the correct market value from the supply chain.
This role will be working on Planned works so if you are a skilled in refurbishment or elemental works in terms of Residential upgrades to social housing we would like to hear from you!
Our planned work revenues can range from £1-15million in value and include works such as re- roofing, kitchen and bathroom replacements, window and door replacements and electrical test and inspection programmes
You will be managing existing supply chain and local suppliers and using IT systems including Excel and Connect for regular data and reporting.
We also offer excellent support towards gaining further qualifications; And hands on exposure to gain more relevant work experience that helps you to grow. We have a comprehensive Fortem Advanced scheme which has been highly successful over many years
The Customer
Fortem’s contract with Orbit Housing covers over 17,000 houses across Stratford-upon-Avon, Coventry, Nuneaton, Northampton, Milton Keynes and Bedford. We have multiple workstreams, including Planned works, Re-Roofing, Repairs & Maintenance, Voids and Capital Works. We’re proud to say we were the winners of ‘branch of the year’ at Fortem in 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
As the Assistant Quantity Surveyor, you will work with the more senior commercial team members to ensure appropriate commercial controls are in place and adhered to, to secure the company’s full entitlement through the contract.
You will work with the Quantity Surveyor to negotiate with partners and control the commercial aspects of the supply chain for maximum leverage and to create economically advantageous arrangements for Fortem.
You will build long term, influential relationships with preferred suppliers to provide flexibility to changing business needs.
Your key responsibilities will include:
• Ensure the company secures its full entitlement within the contract
• Promote company values and procedures internally and externally.
• Ensure project teams meet or exceed budget targets.
• Act as a subject matter expert on contractual arrangements.
• Maximise cash flow through invoicing and resolving client queries.
• Monitor job costs and revenue to support data-driven decisions.
• Manage disputes and identify potential issues early.
• Ensure accurate cash flow forecasts and revenue profiles
• Support financial reporting and cost control governance.
• Oversee subcontractor orders, supplier onboarding, and team development.
What you will need
• Previous experience within a similar surveying role
• Excellent IT knowledge including a high level of Excel skills (incl. V-Lookup, Pivot tables and formula development)
• Negotiating and communication skills
• Knowledge of relevant contract conditions
• Full UK driving licence and a willingness to travel if required by the business.
• Experience within Social Housing
• Knowledge of NHF SOR’s
• QS degree or desire to study towards qualification
