Assistant Site Manager – Ascot, Berkshire
Location: Ascot (SL5)
Salary: £31,000 to £35,000 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)
Contract: Full-time, fixed-term
Overview
My client is a specialist day school set in 14 acres of grounds in Ascot, providing education for pupils aged 5–18 with a primary diagnosis of Autism. The school was rated Outstanding by Ofsted in October 2024.
They are seeking a dedicated, skilled and proactive Assistant Site Manager to support the Site Manager and to fully cover their responsibilities during periods of absence (including sickness and annual leave). You will play a key role in ensuring the site is safe, welcoming and fit for purpose for pupils, staff and visitors.
Key responsibilities
- Act as deputy to the Site Manager, taking a proactive role in day-to-day management of the school estate
- Lead and carry out regular inspections of buildings, grounds, facilities and school vehicles
- Plan, coordinate and deliver routine and reactive maintenance, liaising with contractors and suppliers to ensure work is completed safely and to a high standard
- Lead, supervise and coordinate site staff when deputising for the Site Manager
- Support health & safety compliance on site, including daily safety checks, site security and responding to incidents/emergencies
- Oversee cleaning arrangements, including contractor management, audits, and coordinating emergency cleaning when required
- Oversee inspections and surveys of grounds, trees, playing fields and outdoor facilities (including play equipment)
- Coordinate site readiness and logistics for school events
- Take responsibility for waste management, and the servicing/repair of school vehicles
- Maintain accurate records for maintenance, inspections, audits and statutory checks
- Undertake other duties as directed by the School Business Manager, appropriate to the role
About you
- Experience in premises management/maintenance (ideally within a school, care or facilities environment)
- Strong organisation, problem-solving and communication skills
- Able to work independently, take initiative and work well within a team
- Good working knowledge of Health & Safety, COSHH and statutory compliance
- Clean driving licence
- An interest in fishing, with the ability to support and contribute to the school’s fishing club
