About the apprenticeship
Duties
To complete relevant qualification within agreed timescales and targets to increase skills and enhance personal development
To assist in undertaking text translation for all departments of the authority, working to the Translation unit’s agreed procedures, under the direction of the Principal Translators.
To assist in returning translations to clients in the required format making use of the Translation Unit’s IT resources and utilising the translation memory system to contribute to the Translation Unit’s efficient work systems.
To assist in ensuring that requests for work are dealt with in an effective manner within agreed timescales as specified in the Unit’s conditions of service.
To respond to telephone enquiries, carry out office duties such as sending and receiving documents by internal e-mail and intranet, to ensure speedy turnaround of work.
To gain an understanding of the Welsh Language Standards and their implementation linked to translation, such as the format and design of bilingual documents, publications and signage, terminology, dictionary resources etc.
To carry out any other reasonable duties as required as part of the post and the Translation Unit’s strategic role in the implementation of the Welsh Language Standards.

What we can offer you?
•An Apprenticeship Qualification in Translation Practice with a supportive provider. You will need to be a minimum of 18 years old to apply for this role.
•A 24 month contract in the translation team
•The right training and support to fulfil the role, this will include online e-learning, face to face training and shadowing.
•A full induction and ongoing support from your line manager and the team.
•Competitive rates of pay (National Living Wage).
•At the end of the fixed term contract, there may be opportunities to be appointed to a role subject to availability, suitability, and individual performance.
Requirements
Qualifications
To hold GCSEs of C grade or above in Maths and Welsh or English (or equivalent) or have gained suitable experience over a period of time.
To hold an A ‘Level at grade C or above in Welsh (first language)
To complete a Translation Practice (Welsh Language) Level 4 - Apprenticeship within agreed timescales.

An understanding of good translation.
Experience of using Microsoft packages You always look for positive ways to deal with problems and look for solutions

Knowledge of the Welsh Language Standards.
