Project Planner

Background

Omexom specialise in the design, supply, installation, commissioning and project management of electrical infrastructure projects for electricity utility companies and renewable energy developers throughout the UK and Ireland.

The Role

To support the Transmission and Substations Business Units in the successful delivery of small to large scale projects for blue chip clients through effective programme management techniques and support to the Project Management Organisation (PMO).

Responsibilities

1. Create and maintain projects through tender, design, construction and close-out phases.

2. Update programmes at the required frequency and provide PMO with realistic and accurate forecast programmes.

3. Support PMO with the development, control, monitoring, analysis and reporting on schedule-related aspects for designated projects within a portfolio.

4. Establish and monitor a cost- and resource-loaded, logic-linked baseline plan for the project in accordance with Programme Office processes.

5. Capture project budgetary costs and resources in the plan to determine time phasing of expenditure and the total project budget.

6. Establish robust Work Breakdown and Project Control Structures in terms of project scope, in accordance with Investment Delivery processes, templates and procedures.

7. Interface with other departments regarding the project’s activities which may have an impact and ensure these are correctly captured.

8. Assist the Planning Manager with the development and training of Graduate / Trainee Planners.

Essential Criteria

It is essential that the successful candidate is an excellent communicator with all stakeholders (internal and external), a commercially focused self-starter with the enthusiasm, motivation and initiative to succeed in this role.

The jobholder must possess:

9. Minimum of degree level in an engineering/construction discipline or relevant experience.

10. Working knowledge of relevant Health and Safety legislation.

11. Excellent working knowledge of Primavera P6 and good knowledge of other planning software (Asta, Microsoft Project, etc.).

12. High level of numeracy and excellent analytical skills.

13. Excellent MS Office skills, well versed in the preparation of reports and information using packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

14. Strong awareness of the level of interaction required with the project team function to support the successful delivery of projects.

15. Ability to reconcile cost information as it applies to the programmes of work.

16. Proficiency in the interpretation of estimating, scheduling, programming and risk tools.

17. Proficient in the use of Earned Value Analysis.

18. Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

19. Good attention to detail with effective time management skills.

20. Excellent communication and presentational skills.

Preferable

21. Awareness of NEC3/4 contracts, in particular the programme deliverables / requirements.

22. Awareness of DCMA Assessment Criteria, Acumen Fuse, etc.

General

This position is preferably based in Inverness / Highlands Region; however, we also have offices in Perth or Glasgow, with travel to site and attendance at project progress meetings as required throughout Scotland.

The salary and benefits package for this role will be on a Personal Contract basis and will be commensurate with a position at this level and dependent on experience.
