The Role: Service Engineer
We are recruiting for a Service Engineer to join a well-established and growing machinery manufacturer based in Bedfordshire. Due to increasing customer demand and higher levels of machine customisation, this Service Engineer role offers the opportunity to work on advanced production and packaging machinery across the UK and overseas.
As a Service Engineer, you will be responsible for installation, commissioning, software debugging, and breakdown response. This is a varied and hands-on position, combining on-site engineering work with remote diagnostics and in-house machine testing. The successful Service Engineer will act as a key technical representative when working directly with customers, ensuring high standards of professionalism and technical support.
Main Responsibilities:
* Attend customer sites for installation, commissioning, upgrades, training, and breakdown support
* Write, debug, and commission PLC software on site for production line integration
* Provide remote diagnostics and technical support for breakdowns and upgrades
* Deliver telephone and email support to customers
* Work closely with internal engineering teams to resolve technical issues
* Assist with in-house commissioning and testing of machinery prior to shipment
* Liaise with service and spares teams to ensure accurate support logging and quotation processes
* Complete internal quality documentation including validation documents and test plans
* Act as a professional company representative when attending customer sites
* Support continuous improvement of machinery and software systems
Skills / Experience:
* Recognised qualification in Electrical, Electronic, or Control Engineering (BTEC, HNC or similar)
* 5+ years’ experience as a Service Engineer – Software or similar PLC-focused role
* Strong PLC programming experience (Siemens and/or Allen Bradley)
* Proven experience fault finding complex machinery
* Electrical certification for working with 3-phase installations
* Experience installing and commissioning packaging or production machinery (desirable)
* Experience with production line integration and validation documentation (advantageous)
* Valid passport and willingness to travel UK and overseas
Salary & Working Hours:
Salary: Up to £55,000 basic (OTE £65,000) depending on experience
Working Hours:
Monday to Thursday: 08:30 – 17:00
Friday: Early finish
Overtime will be required when travelling to and from customer sites.
