Newborn Hearing Screener

The closing date is 23 July 2025

We are looking for motivated, conscientious individuals with a flexible approach to join our team. Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential preferably with experience of working with young babies and children.

The post requires being able to work well as part of a team and also on your own initiative. You must be methodical and well organised and it is essential for you to be able to prioritise your own workload to ensure thatall babies are screened. You must be able to remain calm when under pressure as you will frequently be required to cover busy postnatal wards and clinics alone.

Qualified to GSCE standard (or equivalent) is a minimal requirement and basic computer skills and deaf awareness would also be an advantage.

You will be required to travel, therefore a valid driving license and access to a vehicle would be desirable.


Main duties of the job

Identify on a daily basis which babies require screening by using the Smart for Hearing(S4H) and other relevant hospital systems, in addition to liaising with the ward staffCarry out the newborn hearing screen within national and local protocols using automated equipment without direct supervision Ensure results are given to parents/carers and are delivered to primary care teams and follow-up servicesAccurately and legibly record clinical and test data, both written and electronically, taking responsibility for data from testResponsible for monitoring stock levels and ordering stock and non-stock items.Ability to study independently and complete work sheets, case studies and reflection documentPlanning and organisational tasks / dutiesResponsible for planning and organising workload and clinic sessions.

Person Specification

* Educated to O-Level/GSCE level A*-C in English & Maths
* Experience with Young children in a care setting
* Experience of adminstrative duties
* Experience of working in a team and indepedantly
* Excellent IT skills with an ability to navigate web based systems, use email accounts, experience of excel and Microsoft word
* Full driving licence- Access and use of a vehicle
* Evidence of continuing professional development: oNVQ level 3 or equivalent oBSL stage 1
* Working within the Health sector within the past 5 years
* Educated to O-Level/GSCE level A*-C in English & Maths
* Experience with Young children in a care setting
* Experience of adminstrative duties
* Experience of working in a team and indepedantly
* Excellent IT skills with an ability to navigate web based systems, use email accounts, experience of excel and Microsoft word
