The Role
We are seeking to recruit a Project Support Officer, based at our Leeds office on a hybrid basis for 1 year fixed term contract. This role focuses on supporting environmental monitoring projects with a strong emphasis on data analysis, hydraulic modelling, and water quality assessment. You’ll work with multidisciplinary teams to manage and deliver projects efficiently, using modern tools and technologies to improve workflows and ensure regulatory compliance. The position also involves fieldwork, software integration, and contributing to process innovation in environmental data systems.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct data analysis on water quality and flow, ensuring accuracy and relevance
* Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot water monitoring equipment and field instruments
* Use hydraulic modelling tools (eg HEC-RAS) and apply hydraulic principles in project work
* Work with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS) to support spatial data analysis
* Develop and maintain scripts using VBA, SQL, Python, or Java to automate tasks
* Manage and interpret data using environmental databases and management systems
* Ensure compliance with water quality standards and environmental regulations
* Coordinate and prioritise multiple projects to meet deadlines and stakeholder needs
* Integrate and utilise platforms such as Blue Trust Monitoring, PRISM, and HydroSphere
What We’re Looking For:
Essential:
* Proficiency in VBA, SQL, Python, or Java
* Experience with GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS)
* Understanding of hydraulics and use of hydraulic modelling tools (eg HEC-RAS)
* Strong data analysis skills, especially with water quality and flow data
* Ability to operate and troubleshoot water monitoring equipment
* Familiarity with environmental databases and data management systems
* Knowledge of water quality standards and relevant regulations
* Skilled in managing multiple projects and priorities
* Experience with platforms such as Blue Trust Monitoring, PRISM, or HydroSphere
Desirable:
AI in Environmental Monitoring:
* Basic AI knowledge and applications in water monitoring
* Understand benefits/limits of AI and use for anomaly detection
Project Support:
* Aid in planning, scheduling, and budgeting
Process Automation:
* Streamline workflows via API integration and automation
Software Upgrades:
