Job Summary
This role suits an experienced Advance Clinical Practice Physiotherapist or an experienced MSK physiotherapist looking to develop into the Advance Practice role. Previous experience in pain management service, independent prescribing or injections is an advantage. The role involves providing specialised assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral within orthopaedic clinics, and serving as an expert resource for the physiotherapy and hand therapy department.
Responsibilities
* Provide expert musculoskeletal assessment, diagnosis and appropriate onward management of patients with chronic and acute conditions in orthopaedic clinics.
* Use specialist skills beyond physiotherapy scope to aid diagnosis and develop treatment plans; act as first contact for GP referrals.
* Triage secondary care referrals independently and make onward consultant/clinic/rehabilitation referrals; discharge patients directly from clinic.
* Delegate responsibility for electronic triage of orthopaedic referral letters on behalf of orthopaedic consultants.
* Lead, in collaboration with the Trust MSK Lead, strategic physiotherapy improvement of local services and patient care pathways relating to spine pain.
* Act as a source of professional advice and expertise to physiotherapists, consultants, GPs, and other external health professionals; build effective working relationships with orthopaedics, therapies, advance clinical practitioners, pain, rheumatology, radiology teams and the IMSK operational team.

* Relevant MSc or Completed Advanced Clinical Practice MSc
Experience
* Significant post‑registration specialty experience at advanced practice level.
* Enhanced clinical skills relevant to area of clinical practice.
* Interpretation of laboratory tests and imaging/CXR.
* Working as an autonomous practitioner.
* Experience of complaints and managing incidents.
Desirable
* Experience in writing policies and developing local guidance.
* Change management skills.
* Experience presenting to multidisciplinary audiences.

Contract and Salary
Band 8a – Fixed term, 6 months, Full‑time. Salary: £59,798 to £67,020 per annum (inclusive of HCAS).
