This is a great opportunity for an enthusiastic Consultant to provide community secondary mental health services to adults over 25 years with mental health needs requiring specialist assessment and interventions.
There are two adult Community Mental Health teams in West Norfolk: one serving Kings Lynn and another serving Downham Market and Swaffham.
Main duties of the job
The post involves 7.5 programmed direct clinical activity sessions and 2.5 programmed 'supporting professional activity' sessions.
The job plans and working patterns reflect the functional requirements of the Locality and the National Service Framework for Mental Health, not limited by catchment area.
All full-time doctors are expected to work 7.5 Direct Clinical Care (DCC) sessions in one or more clinical teams.
Through job planning and agreement, 2.5 sessions of Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) allow for special interests, teaching, research, management duties, administration, and CPD.
These arrangements offer flexibility and the opportunity to adapt working patterns and clinical interests over time, with regular reviews to ensure roles remain aligned with evolving needs.
About us
West Norfolk has 10 consultant psychiatrist posts covering various services, including working age adult, older adult, inpatient, crisis, liaison, and youth services, with plans to expand to meet Core 24 standards. The non-consultant workforce includes 3 Staff and Specialist doctors, up to 9 trainees, and non-medical prescribers supporting clinical delivery.
Job responsibilities
The Community Mental Health Team comprises multidisciplinary colleagues, including Nurses, Psychologists, Support Workers, and trainees. Further details are available in the attached job description.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* GMC registration
* Section 12(2) approval under the Mental Health Act
* Approved Clinician Status
* Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCST
Experience
* 6 months in the specific specialty
* At least 3 years of medical experience
* Knowledge of diagnosis, treatment, and management of complex mental illnesses
Teaching
* Experience supervising junior medical staff
* Teaching and presentation skills
Clinical Governance
* Understanding of Clinical Governance principles
* Commitment to open review of practice
