About the Role

This is a shared role with a social worker leading the Haumaru Whānau Tepu (Maternal Wellbeing) and Child Protection programs in the Hawkes Bay.

This is a varied, clinical leadership role including coordination of National Child Protection Alerts, teaching clinicians, auditing, collaborating with Government and NGO health and social service agencies and leading multi-disciplinary meetings focused on supporting tamariki and whānau with complex needs.

About the Team/Service/ Location

The Haumaru Whānau Team comprises three clinicians working closely together and focused on the Violence Intervention Program (Family Violence) and Child Protection Program across the Hawkes Bay region including Wairoa and Central Hawkes Bay.

While you will have an office on the Hawkes Bay Hospital campus, it is expected that a significant portion of your time will be spend interacting with clinicians working in the hospital and community across the Hawkes Bay.

About you

Strong, collaborative intersectoral relationships and strong cultural skills are key to supporting whānau with complex needs. You will have a proven ability to engage and build relationships with Health New Zealand clinicians and our community partners. Familiarity with the child protection and family violence systems in Aotearoa would be an advantage. Proven skills in cultural competence and cultural safety are essential in these roles.

You are passionate about making a difference to the whanau (family) and tamariki (children) of Hawkes Bay and recognise the interdependence between Family Violence, child abuse and health outcomes for hapū mām, whānau and tamariki.

You enjoy teaching, mentoring and supporting clinicians to upskill around child protection and grow in their practice.

You are a Registered Nurse or Registered Midwife with a current annual practicing certificate and have worked in New Zealand as a Nurse/Midwife

You are committed to developing and building strong systems to protect and grow our Child Protection and Maternal Wellbeing programs and implement national policies and directions resulting from the Dame Poutasi report and the release of the Health New Zealand Child Protection Policy.
