ROLE OVERVIEW:
The Maintenance Technician Level 2 is responsible for carrying out planned, reactive, and preventative maintenance across the site to ensure equipment, plant, and facilities operate safely and efficiently. The role supports day‑to‑day maintenance activities while providing technical expertise, troubleshooting skills, and contributing to continuous improvement projects.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:
Maintenance & Repairs
* Perform scheduled planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
* Carry out reactive maintenance to address breakdowns, faults, and equipment issues in a timely manner.
* Diagnose and repair mechanical and electrical faults using appropriate tools and testing equipment.
* Support the installation, commissioning, and modification of machinery, systems, and equipment.
* Maintain and repair building services including lighting, HVAC, plumbing, and basic fabric repairs.
Compliance & Safety
* Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with UK health and safety regulations, company policies, and safe working practices.
* Complete maintenance documentation, job sheets, and asset records accurately.
* Participate in site safety inspections, risk assessments, and permit‑to‑work systems.
Technical Support
* Assist with root cause analysis (RCA) and continuous improvement initiatives.
* Provide support and guidance to junior technicians or apprentices where required.
* Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and external engineers during site visits or projects.
Operational Efficiency
* Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
* Ensure spare parts, tools, and materials are used efficiently and stock levels are maintained.
* Report issues that could affect safety, equipment performance, or production schedules.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
* Level 2 qualification (NVQ/City & Guilds) in a relevant discipline (Electrical, Mechanical, Plumbing, or Multi‑skilled engineering).
* Proven experience in a maintenance engineering or facilities maintenance role.
* Ability to diagnose and repair basic electrical and mechanical faults.
* Competent in the safe use of tools, equipment, and testing instruments.
* Working knowledge of UK health & safety regulations (e.g., PUWER, LOLER, COSHH).
* Strong problem‑solving skills and an analytical approach to fault‑finding.
* Good communication skills and ability to work independently or within a team.
Desirable
* Level 3 engineering qualification or willingness to work towards it.
* Experience with building management systems (BMS), HVAC, fire alarms, or access control systems.
* 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) certification.
* Knowledge of CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
* Previous experience in manufacturing, commercial buildings, or industrial environments.
